SUMMARY
Layered Process Audits (LPAs) have become very popular lately. Their popularity is born both as a result of mandatory requirements from the automotive industry (Chrysler & GM), as well as a desire from customers for organizations to ship the correct product, meeting all customer requirements, correctly labeled, all the time. Layered Process Audits can be used to meet the requirements for the manufacturing process audit in paragraph 8.2.2.2 of ISO/TS 16949. They can also be used as a preventive action and/or continual improvement technique within the internal audit system for all of the other quality management systems (ISO 9001, AS9100C, and ISO 13485). But, as with all quality tools, implementation of Layered Process Audits should not be done to simply meet a customer requirement or satisfy a quality management system requirement. Layered Process Audits should be used to prevent errors and drive continual improvement within your organization. During this presentation, we will discuss a step by step process to structure and implement a Layered Process Audit approach to drive continual improvement.

Topics to be covered during this presentation are:
  • The LPA Implementation Team
  • Identifying Processes within the Facility
  • Defining LPA Audit Layers
  • Creating LPA Checklists
  • Training LPA Auditors
  • Collecting LPA Metrics
  • Sustaining the LPA Process
