SUMMARY
There aren’t too many requirements in ISO 9001:2008 that are more likely to elicit a yawn from management. After all, how complicated can it possibly be? While it’s not terribly complicated, it’s significantly relevant to the effective deployment of a variety of QMS processes – all of which have a direct impact on your ability to serve your customers.

Without records, organizations don’t have the information they need for good decision making. They lack the data to analyze trends, to assess risk and to benchmark good practices. They’re also missing the evidence needed for internal audits, root cause analysis, corrective actions and management review – which brings us full cycle to the need for reliable information upon which to base decisions. Finally, in some cases, organizations fail to adequately address customer record retention requirements.
